January 23, 2015 at 3:57 PM
Heather Erhart he's not employeed for the school district, read the release "Alex Gomez is employed as a school bus driver for a private contract company, not the school district."
January 23, 2015 at 4:02 PM2
Heather Erhart But still OMG!
January 23, 2015 at 4:02 PM1
Amber Cosner Teachers, bus drivers, janitors? All work for the district. It's gross, like how many kids are going to be put through this before they change something.
January 23, 2015 at 4:03 PM1
Mary Lindsley bus drivers do not work for the district - the school sold the bus's years ago.
January 23, 2015 at 4:05 PM3
Judith Lynn Laffoon Amber, what changes would you make to the hiring practices of the school district to ensure that no child molesters are hired?
January 23, 2015 at 4:18 PM3
Tracey Kneiding Hunter People. The school district is seperate from First Student (who owns the buses and hires the bus drivers).
January 23, 2015 at 4:21 PM4
Colleen Scannel Coleman Sadly, this post is misleading
January 23, 2015 at 4:24 PM4
Patricia Austin If they go through a strict background checxk they can squeeze through if they have never been arrested for the crime
January 23, 2015 at 4:24 PM4
Mary Lindsley JL I hate to say it but there is little you can do if they have no records there is nothing you can do, you cannot tell when for some unknown reason someone change's or if they where like that from the start if they where never reported and there is no record -
January 23, 2015 at 4:24 PM1
Colleen Scannel Coleman Ill bet we see a correction???
January 23, 2015 at 4:25 PM1
Judith Lynn Laffoon Mary Lindsley - Thanks. I was posing the question to Amber as she obviously believes the District can change something, as she says.
January 23, 2015 at 4:33 PM15

We had a great guest this morning on the Up-Close Show -- Dave Cole, co-founder of the King of the Hammers. Dave, along with Jeff Knoll, started the rock-crawling and off-roading race at Means Dry Lake in Johnson Valley with a dozen teams in 2007 for bragging rights. Now, the event boasts an extraordinary 400 teams, bringing tens of thousands of spectators to our Morongo Basin.

Diane Shea im just speaking the truth and voicing my opinion
January 22, 2015 at 12:15 PM3
Sara Ramsey Opinion does not truth make.
January 22, 2015 at 12:17 PM12
Sara Ramsey Most of the headlines are going to involve Marines because there are more Marines than anyone else in this area... if the base wasn't here, it'd be some 21 year old employee at McDonald's being a moron in the middle of the desert.
January 22, 2015 at 12:20 PM22
Dallas Harris Sean Malik this happened what the hell lol
January 22, 2015 at 12:23 PM1
Sara Ramsey And now I'm either blocked or the comments have been deleted... hahaha.
January 22, 2015 at 12:28 PM3
Sean Malik Dafuq?? What a weirdo. He was a Sergeant too. Lol but on the other hand, i agree what "Sara" said.
January 22, 2015 at 12:28 PM7
Sara Ramsey He should've known better... but so should most 21 year olds. You can't force kids to grow up, unfortunately, Sean.

Patricia Wood Civilians do it too. Sorry to say but these marines, if they just got back from Afghanistan or what, that might trigger something. Our little town is getting bad!! Sorry this had to happen seriously! !
January 22, 2015 at 1:20 PM2
Russell Simpson Sheriffs. Doing their job. Good no one got hurt. Except the trash. Pick up your trash, folks, we can avoid these incidents. Hehe.
January 22, 2015 at 2:05 PM3
Viola Blevins Shouldn't it be crime free up here in our desert? I wish!
January 22, 2015 at 4:36 PM1
Nick Luhrs Wait, why did they stop him in the first place? That whole area East of 29 is designated for shooting. I mean if he was drunk, I'm glad they got him off the road and away from guns for the night. However, the description of events seem pretty severe for what was a legal activity.
January 22, 2015 at 5:34 PM2
Aaron Thiel Nick Luhrs it is not designated for shooting. Much of it is private land or government managed. That doesn't mean it is open for shooting. If there were houses in the area then it was definitely not a safe place to shoot.
January 22, 2015 at 6:33 PM5
David Fick It depends how East of 29 Palms they were. And 3 am? http://www.theoutdoorsforum.com/forums/topic/33751-san-bernardino-county-shootinghunting-map/
January 22, 2015 at 8:07 PM

January 22, 2015 at 8:15 PM
Tami Roleff Baylis Road. He was close enough to civilization that neighbors heard his shots.
January 22, 2015 at 11:36 PM
Leslie Gonzalez It doesn't matter how east they were, there are laws for a reason David.
January 23, 2015 at 3:10 PM
David Fick Leslie Gonzalez, I don't know if you looked at the map link I posted - outside the 29 Palms City limits and to the South of Hwy 62 - it's legal to be shooting day OR night. I was at several meetings in 1991 where the shooting restrictions of night shooting East of Sunfair Rd. were considered and adopted. I was part of a citizens network in Joshua Tree and Wonder Valley that wanted to stop (mostly Marines) hunting bobcats and coyotes with high-powered weapons with high-powered four wheel drive vehicles with high power lights going BETWEEN houses in Wonder Valley in all hours of the night (Yes-even 3 am). If you look at the map, that light Blue area overlay of Wonder Valley was due to the efforts of Ray Kirkham, Frank Geiseng and me of yesteryears. In 1988, our neighborhood was repeatedly attacked by off duty Marines who did about fifty thousand dollars damage to two vacation homes in 8 or 9 visits in a duration of two months. Illegal shotgun weapons, automatic weapons and pipebombs were used and we even had the receipts for the ammo from the Base Exchange with the Military IDs. The Sheriffs department let them off because the Lt. at the local Sheriffs substation was friends with the perpetrators at the 29 Palms Gun Club (we found that out two years later). So Leslie, after a bullet came thru our studio window in 1987 - we got involved.
